Oral Literacy
Literacy is a big word in schools. Motivating and equipping students to read and write and gain a deeper understanding of a text is a constant challenge.
An Oral Literacy Workshop can make a significant difference in a pupil’s development. In order to write a story a student first needs to ’see’ it in their minds’ eye; almost like a film being played out in front of them. Once that is acheived the writing comes more naturally.
Using Storytelling and Drama techniques an Oral Literacy Workshop can teach a pupil to:
- gain a deeper understanding of the meaning of a story, both deduced and inferred, by experiencing it for themselves
- not only learn but sense the structure of a story
- use more expressive language by immersing themselves in the emotions and atmosphere of a story
- explore different ways to use their voice and body to communicate a story more effectively
